HYROX Race Bag: Station-by-Station Packing List

Bag drop fills up fast and race morning brains get loud. Use this station-aware packing list so every item in the bag has a job — and nothing illegal sneaks onto the floor.

The Quick Answer

Pack one start-to-finish race kit, permitted accessories you trained in, and a drop-bag spare kit — not eight different station costumes. Use a durable backpack (tactical backpacks / meal-prep 45L) and re-check bag-drop rules for your venue.

Philosophy

One kit. Eight stations. Zero mid-race fashion shows.

HYROX stations punish indecision. You are not changing shoes for the sled and again for wall balls unless the rulebook and your plan explicitly allow it — most athletes race one footwear and one accessory set.

Think in two layers: on-body race kit and bag-drop support kit.

Rule reminder

Permitted accessories are often worn or carried start to finish. Do not plan fantasy mid-race swaps.

Stations

Station-aware packing notes (still one kit)

SkiErg + Sled push/pull

Hands and shoes matter more than extra layers. Soft hands on rope; trusted traction.

Burpee broad jumps

Secure shorts; nothing flopping into your face.

Row + Farmers

Sweat plan ready; handles get slick.

Lunges + Wall balls

Sleeves/belt only if rehearsed; dry-hand habit locked.

Deep dives: sled rope burn · farmers grip · sandbag lunges sleeves · wall balls.

Drop bag

What stays off the floor until after

1

Dry clothes + socks Finish line dignity.

2

Simple nutrition you tolerate Nothing experimental.

3

Small blister/tape kit Training rules still apply if you wrap pre-race.

4

ID, confirmation, travel docs Non-negotiable.

6

Pack with intent

Zones

Pack the bag in three zones

Zone 1 — on body / start line: shoes, clothing, permitted sleeves/belt/sweatbands, timing chip/bib as required, nutrition already decided.

Zone 2 — bag drop access: dry clothes, simple recovery food, light jacket, ID copies, phone if you must, spare socks, small blister kit.

Zone 3 — do not bring to chaos: laptop, irreplaceable jewelry, entire supplement pantry, unused training grips mixed into the race pouch.

Label the outside of black backpacks. In a sea of identical packs, your future self will thank you.

Print or screenshot wave time, parking, and bag-drop map. Phones die. Staff lines get long. Analog backups are athletic.

Travel

Flying with a HYROX kit

Put race shoes and one full on-body kit in carry-on when flying. Checked bags go on adventures without you. Keep liquids rules in mind for balms and bottles.

If you use a large travel backpack, still create a small “race morning” pouch inside it so you are not excavating the entire 45L in a hallway.

Station

Station-by-station reminders to pack for

You are not packing a tool for every station. You are packing a body kit that survives every station. Still, mentally walk the race while you pack:

  • Ski / row — clothing that does not restrict pull; sweat starts early
  • Sled push/pull — shoes locked; hand plan for rope
  • Burpee broad jumps — nothing bouncing wildly from pockets
  • Farmers — hand plan continues
  • Lunges — sleeves/belt as decided
  • Wall balls — sweat wipe habit; target standards in your head

If an item does not serve that walk-through, leave it out.

Kids

Family spectators and your bag

If family holds your bag until drop, give them a one-page list and a meeting point. Do not assume they know which pouch is sacred.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I pack for HYROX race day?

Photo ID, confirmation, race kit you trained in, permitted accessories, nutrition/hydration plan, dry clothes, simple recovery items, and a bag that fits bag-drop rules.

Do I need a special HYROX backpack?

You need a durable bag you can identify quickly. RBST tactical backpacks and the active 45L meal-prep backpack ($135.00) work for travel + drop.

Station-by-station — do I pack gear per station?

Usually no mid-race gear changes. Pack one race kit you wear start to finish, plus bag-drop spares.

Can I leave chalk in the bag?

Only if rules allow use. Otherwise leave it home — see chalk guide.

Should grips go in the race bag?

Optional for hotel/training. Keep them out of the race-floor plan.

What about doubles partners?

Each athlete packs their own sized accessories and spares.

Hydration packing?

Follow venue rules. Many athletes use on-course options plus a sealed bottle in drop bag.

Electronics?

Phone for after; watch if you race with one. Do not rely on doom-scrolling in the corral.

How early to pack?

Night before. Race morning is for eating and warming up.

Rain or cold venues?

Pack a light throwaway layer for before/after — not for the race unless rules and heat allow.

Tape and blister kit?

Yes in the drop bag. Know race rules before wrapping mid-event.

Do I need tools?

No. Keep it simple.

Travel flight packing?

Use a larger pack like the meal-prep backpack for shoes + kit + snacks.

Where is the full checklist?

Calm bag. Calm start. Forged in Grit. Built by Community.
